Sometimes I get so deeply buried in the iTunes-ified total control milieu of digital music-type stuff that I forget how alien and—let's face it—unnecessary all the ripping/mixing/burning of it all is to a whole lot of people.
Loaded iPods make a great gift and with no complicated downloading of tracks are ideal for less technically minded lovers of nostalgic music - just a brand new music collection ready to enjoy at the touch of a button.
I never even really considered that, but it's true. You never need to sync the thing to a computer in order to use it; you just need to keep it charged. And these days, iPods are of such capacity that $250 just for the music alone can be a bargain, to say nothing of the player it comes on.
'Course, this all assumes that the music is being legally redistributed and all; I'm guessing that the fact that this is a "Vintage music" site has something to do with that. But still, neat idea.
