14:50 - Global Drenching
|
(top) |
It is raining like hell out there.
I just got some new tires put on my Audi (the factory Pirellis, while only about eighteen months old, are already getting fairly worn—besides which I've had to repair three separate punctures in two different tires in recent months, since apparently we've got a construction site near the house that's dropping screwdriver bits and screw shanks all over the road). Driving back from the tire installation place to the office, I found myself driving through lakes of undrained rainwater right across the freeway. Every car on the road was kicking up huge rooster-tails, continuously, heading down 85 at 40 mph for no reason other than that it's freaking unnerving sloshing through this much water at highway speed.
The guy at the tire place told me these tires are fun, but will only last about 5,000 miles. Well, at least the trip back to work didn't count against that total, because I spent the whole distance hydroplaning.
I guess this means the Mt. Lassen climb I'd planned for this weekend with my dad isn't gonna happen, huh?
