Former Apple Advocates Switching Away From Macs!
That's the headline on this story at Fox News; Tech Gurus Say They'll 'Switch from Mac' is how eWEEK words it for the same story.
Who would blame a reader for thinking that the story was about people switching from the Mac to Windows?
But it's not. It's about the people (actually, person) switching to Ubuntu Linux. Not Windows. For Mark Pilgrim's purposes, Windows would be an even worse choice than Mac OS X, and the arguments he's made in favor of the Mac over Windows in the past all still hold. Not that you'd really get that angle from this story, let alone the headlines. One gets the feeling that the journalists thought they had a juicy scoop here—a reversal of the "Switch" campaign! Stop the presses—and were disappointed to discover that the switching in question wasn't back to Windows, but in the exact opposite direction, toward Linux. So they poked and prodded the intro text and headline and made the best of a bad situation.
That being the case, it's still funny that it's news that someone would switch from the Mac to anything.
