11:54 - It's not the end, it's the beginning!

Shyeah, like we haven't heard that before.
So Yahoo has eaten Flickr now, have they? (Boy, that sentence structure ought to send a few Brits into conniptions. Yes, perhaps Yahoo have eaten Flickr; that works better indeed, what?) The Flickr blog is going to pains to convince everyone that everything will continue to be fine, even though Yahoo already has a "Photos" section that's very, very different from Flickr. All's supposed to be well, we're to believe. Well, there's a first time for everything, I guess. Fingers crossed.
Meanwhile, I took a couple of hours on Saturday to go up on Mt. Umunhum at the southern edge of San Jose (right above my house, really) and take a few extreme telephoto shots out over the city as the rainstorm burst all around me into horizontal sunset beams and a rack of wind threatened to send me hurling down off Bald Mountain into the forest below.
Here's downtown, after some lever-tweaking to bring out the colors and contrast:
And here's a plane coming in to land at San Jose International:
Both these photos were almost completely gray and devoid of contrast before smacking them around in iPhoto a little. They're a bit oversaturated in their current form, and I could have spent a bit more time getting everything perfect, but... I'm just happy enough with how well this camera (and the image-stabilized 75-300 telephoto) perform under severe wind buffeting.
Bigger versions are available via the clickthroughs; just beware of spy-camera popup ads and e-mail address harvesting checkboxes with labels worded in the triple negative. Cost of doing business, I guess.
